Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home earned a nursing rating which is better than its overall grade. We gave this place an above average score of B in this area. In determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the amount of time nurses are caring for patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving a patient at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

It should also be noted that this nursing home's inspection score was strong as well. In fact, we gave it a grade of B for inspections, which is one of our better scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. This facility was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility's third highest category is its long-term care score, where it was awarded a C. Our long-term care grade is often used to score a nursing home's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we graded was short-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in that category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 3.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
