Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A+. Inspection scores are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's long-term care grade ended up being one of its higher grades. The nursing home was given a grade of B- in this category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 93.81721 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. The nursing grade consists of several datapoints, however, the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we looked at was short-term care, which was this facility's worst area. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is certainly a major concern. Our short-term care grades are arguably most meaningful for people in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. With a score of this caliber for this area, we weren't stunned to discover this place was well below average in two of the key staffing metrics we looked at. It offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.2 percent of its residents returning home.
