Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this nursing home a weak overall score, we gave it a somewhat respectable score in the area of inspections, where we gave it a B-. This was quite a bit better than its other categories. Inspection scores are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality measures. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we graded was long-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B- in this category. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. One of the datapoints we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to our next category, this facility was awarded an acceptable short-term care score of C. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below average.
