Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with a list of deficiencies flagged. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second best category was its long-term care grade, where it was awarded a B-. In the area of long-term care, we focus on the quantity of services provided by a facility, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 97.21254 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing score assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is quite a bit below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we analyzed was short-term care. This nursing home received a poor grade of F in this category. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer good rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With its poor grade in this category, we were not stunned to learn this place provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
