Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing rating analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This facility provided 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be awarded multiple A+ category grades. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 95.918365 percent of its patients. This is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the nursing home population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Moving on to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that category, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an impressive grade of A for that category. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The final area we scored is short-term care, where this facility was awarded an A. This completed a very favorable report card. Not many nursing homes earned an A- or better in every single category. Short-term care grades are generally used to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
