Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, this place also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.53521 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we assessed is short-term care, where this nursing home received a B- in this category. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next category we rated is nursing, is this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. This is one of the few dings in a very solid report card. When calculating a facility's nursing rating, we look at the amount of time nurses commit to residents and the levels of training of those nurses. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were far below the national average. Although this place didn't excel in nursing hours, it actually surprised us in some of the quality-based assessments in the nursing category, such as avoiding serious falls. This place performed above average in this datapoint, which was one redeeming quality we found in this category.
