Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially wanted to emphasize its excellent short-term care score. We gave them an A- in this category. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing grade. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving a resident more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our next area, this facility also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average score in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 96.969696 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Finally, we also gave this facility a score of B for our inspections category. This nursing home didn't have any major weaknesses. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
