Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home averages 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This high end nursing home also was superb in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Only a small group of nursing homes fared better in this area. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 97.87234 percent of its residents, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

The third area we analyzed is short-term care. This nursing home also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be given more than one A+ category grades. Short-term care grades are vital for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Lastly, we wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's nearly flawless government inspections. We gave them a B+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
