Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility also didn't rate poorly in the category of long-term care. In fact, we gave it a grade of B- for that area, which wound up being another one of its better grades. For patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.25373 percent of its residents. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home's next highest category is short-term care. However, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed somewhat poorly. In determining our short-term care ratings, we size up a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is generally a fair measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Given its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we analyzed is nursing, which was a weak spot for this facility. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for our nursing category. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. In addition to its weak nursing hours, this place also received suboptimal marks in several of the quality-based measures we considered in computing our nursing grades. We found that more of this place's patients suffered falls leading to serious injury.
