Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its relatively modest overall score, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The second highest area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In computing these long-term care scores, we quantify the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 92.41706 percent of its residents for pneumonia. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the area of short-term care, this nursing home was given just a D in that category. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Considering its score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to the final area, we gave this facility a grade of D in nursing. This is the facility's least impressive category score. Nursing ratings are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
