Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The second highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing score is mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's third best category was short-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is more often than not a reliable assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. With its weak rating in this area, we were not shocked to find this facility offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we analyzed was long-term care, which ended up being a low point for this nursing home. We gave this facility a D in our long-term care category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the facility didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to patient care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility administered the vaccine to only 80 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
