Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Although we didn't grade this nursing home favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

One of this facility's more favorable category grades was in the category of short-term care. This wound up being its second most respectable category. In that area, we gave this facility a C. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This area is frequently a meaningful measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only earned a D for its long-term care score, which is not a very good score. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to only 82.40741 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last category we analyzed is nursing. It received an abysmal F in this area, which is an abysmal score. We assessed the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this area. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
