Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Even though we did not have many favorable things to say about this facility's overall grade, it received a respectable short-term care rating of C. This boosted its profile to an extent. In forming these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the quantity of hours nurses are seeing patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facilities third best category is long-term care. We gave it a C in this category. This is basically a slightly below average score in this area. In the category of long-term care, we weigh the quantity of care provided by a facility, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 93.10345 percent of its residents for pneumonia. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

The last category we looked at was inspections. This ended up being this nursing home's worst grade. We gave it a score of D in this area. Since this data is collected by independent government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our grading. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. You should be more cautious when considering a nursing home that has severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This facility was assessed one deficiency by CMS. Fortunately, it was not in a category that suggests that it created a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines of more than $100,000. This typically means that a nursing home's poor track record has been an issue for multiple years.
