Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing rating analyzes a handful of datapoints, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless government inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received an impressive score of A- in our short-term care category. In computing our short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category, this nursing home also was awarded an impressive long-term care rating, with a grade of B+. This finished off a very strong report card. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 28.888887 percent of its residents. This is a bit less than we anticipated. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
