Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility truly excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we looked at was short-term care, where this facility received a grade of C in this area. With our short-term care grade, we strive to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final category we graded was nursing. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in our nursing category, making this its weakest grade. The nursing rating includes several subcategories, but the paramount consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. While this nursing home's nursing hours are below average, it actually surprised us in a few of the qualitative data points in this category. In particular, we were pleased to see that its residents are experiencing fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
