Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was given an impressive score in our long-term care category. We awarded this nursing home a better than average grade of B in this category. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.21671 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this metric. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving a patient more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the last category, this facility was awarded a decent short-term care score of B-. With our short-term care category, we seek to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 3.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
